Sustainability.

For thousands of years wood has been the chosen building material. It is easy to work with, fast to install, as well as being a naturally renewable, environmental friendly material. In New Zealand, there are more buildings constructed with wood than any other structural material, which explains why it can be seen in kiwi homes.

On a limited environmental life cycle analysis (LCA) basis, wood has one of the lowest carbon footprints of any construction material, because it removes CO2 from the atmosphere and remains carbon negative even when transportation is taken into account. As such, building in wood sourced from sustainably-managed plantations can therefore make a positive contribution to combating climate change.

The globally recognised independent body, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), has recognised the Tokoroa mill for using responsibly sourced wood, awarding CHH Plywood with the FSC certificate (SCS-COC-001316). The FSC certificate can be supplied if requested.

In addition, as sustainability continues to become more important to both the architectural and building community, CHH Plywood continues to search for methods of ensuring that customers and end consumers receive products that have minimal impact on the environment. In 2018, In support of the Living Building Challenge, the Ecoply® range of products were given the Declare and red list labels which is in support of participating in Declare and for being Living Building Challenge compliant.
